about

In 1982 we were never really sure if the group would survive, but when the first album with the Nick Keir line-up was released it was fairly obvious we had some sort of future, so another album beckoned, hence "Ancestral Manoeuvres". In December 1983 we recorded what was to be the first of many albums at Pier House Studios, owned by Peter Haigh. Peter also engineered the album. Frankly, I don't remember too much about it, but I recall wanting to record all day and all night. I was sorely disappointed when sessions were interrupted by luxuries like food and coffee. It was a good studio and Peter is a great engineer and we used Pier House off and on (mainly "on") for the next 10 albums.
Incidentally, we managed to get a few gigs in Cyprus, '83 and had the cover photo taken there. We look far too healthy and happy to be folkies. We managed to reverse that look later in our career.
The album was released in January 1984
