about

I can remember nothing about this acetate recording which means we had fun doing it. It's our first and only recording audition.
Seriously bad quality, scratched, crackly, dodgy performances, but FREE. This is the surprise of the project. Not even Hamish has heard this but he gave me permission to use it.
Whilst rummaging through my unique filing system (stuffed cupboard) for extra info re this project I stumbled upon an old, scratched acetate "45" record.
The year was probably 1967 when we saw a "you can be a star" advert from EMI recordings in the "Evening News". At that time we reckoned it might be good to take a break, maybe permanent, from singing to give architecture a chance, and the audition offered free recording, after which we could buy a copy of the recording on an acetate record. It seemed a good idea to get a recording to remind ourselves, in years to come, what we managed to achieve in the early sixties.
Good plan. Unfortunately it all went wrong when we passed the audition and EMI offered us an album. We said, "yes". Goodbye architecture.

Just the three of us, Hamish Bayne, Derek Moffat and Ian McCalman, singing four songs at Craighall Studios, Edinburgh in 1967. It's an audition for EMI. The man that "introduces" the songs is Pete Kerr who was to produce many of our first lot of albums
