about

I mentioned we had great times in Shetland and on our first tour with the "new" line-up we stayed at Rick Nickersons' place in Lerwick. Rick played bass guitar on many of our earlier albums and we were listening to some of his record collection, in particular the "American Graffiti" soundtrack which featured "The Inkspots" singing "Goodnight Sweetheart". I reckoned it could be one of our "light relief" novelty tracks and imagined it as an encore song but the guys thought I was nuts. To their credit, we rehearsed the song and it was Nick who started the finger snapping choreography thing. Derek played along with the swaying send-up dance and, thank God, I played guitar, thus escaping an embarrassing "dad-dance". It worked.
