about

The first song is based on a poem, "The Drum", by John Scott (January 9th 1731 – December 12th 1783), known as Scott of Amwell (Hertfordshire). The second one has a connection to James Hogg, early 19th century, as a Scottish border song but there seems to be a bit of Welsh in it as well. I apologise for the small poem being missed out at the end. It wasn't included in the digital copy of the master tapes I had so i had to rely on an old LP and there were a few bumps and clicks I couldn't remove. It lasted only 15 seconds but here it is:
This is the end of it all
High and low, great and small
This finishes the poor vain show
And a king with all his pride
In his lifetime deified
With the beggar is at last laid low

Like the concertina and the unlikely harmonies.
