about

Banjo and fiddle.....who knew? I play the banjo and Derek plays fiddle on this one and that never happened before or since, for very good reason. The singing carries it and there are unaccompanied interludes. I remember when we performed this song at one of our TV shows. Aly Bayne was there and told Derek, regarding his fiddle-playing: "Thou lookst like ye were standin' in a bucket o' adrenaline". Aly was actually very complimentary about Derek's effort but like my banjo-playing, these instruments were almost abandoned from this album onward. A gift to the nation.
John Connolly of the group, Broadside, wrote this song and he was best known for writing Fiddlers' Green. believe me he wrote many other great songs, as did his friend in the group, Bill Meek.
