With this song, I assume we were trying to show some diversity and originality in our choice of material. This is a quiet solo and pretty long and samey for an audition, but no-one else was singing it at the time. The singing is pretty pedantic and a touch sharp in one of the lines, but I reached the end unscathed. I sang the song on our first album about half a year after the audition. It wasn't much better, but the chording and whistle-playing was good.

"A.L. Lloyd sang Off to Sea Once More" in 1956 so I don't understand why all the versions on Google seem to suggest the singers were the writers. When you sing a traditional song you can copyright the arrangement but don't hold your breath for the royalties to flood in.
