about

Instrumentals: Hamish came up with these two. "Dingle Ragatta" we owe to one, some, or all of the following: Paddy Moloney, Seán Ó Riada, The Chieftains and The Playboy of the Western World. Take your pick. The second is "The Little Village". There's a concertina and another whistle added later and I think that was due to a wee tuning problem. Every live album is beset by that problem. You need to play the music and yet constantly tune. We never had a tuner is those days so we tuned to the concertina. Hamish was also a brilliant tuner of the whistles, sometimes employing candles, hot water and whatever it took to get perfect pitch. Inevitably, in a live gig, strings would expand, contract or get thumped into oblivion.
