about

Well it's a "live" gig so anything goes. "Bonnie Dundee" is a well known Scottish song and we tried to include a couple of "weel kent" songs in most concerts. Re the inside story, and I'm aware that this may interest only me, our phrasing of "unhook the west port" is dodgy but Derek controls the song very well. I manage a silly opening intro but I was never happy with any of my intros, particularly those of 50 years ago. It all sounds a bit childish now but audiences were very patient.

Nice whistle from Hamish and Derek sings well. Generally on the album, Derek and I played guitars, Hamish played, on different tracks, mandolin, concertina and whistle. I also played an Old English guitar, similar to a Portuguese guitar, made by John Bailey of London. The guitar is pictured on the cover of this album and is in this studio as I write this. It's a traditional song.
