about

From the albums of the sixties and seventies I suppose "Smuggler" was considered by many to be our best album. It sold very well. Asked to do album, and paying us a fair amount of advance royalties, Transatlantic offered The Macs a chance to record at Chipping Norton Studios, which recorded "Baker Street" ( Gerry Rafferty), 500 Miles (Proclaimers) and many other classics. "Smuggler" was not a classic in those terms but we were pleased with it. The studio had also overnight accommodation for the artists so we had a brilliant time while we were there. Amazing we got an album out of it. Ritchie Gold was flown over from the USA to produce it and we met him off the plane. First day: super-cool and smoking funny cigarettes, third day: funny, great craic and downing pints of heavy. Result!
This Bandcamp recording has no scratches, because it's straight from the master.
Incidentally, I've inserted the original cover photo of the group under the guise of "track art" on Track 1.
